The house was built on a barrow and the front door was sealed in around 1850, this was by a local Rector Peter Du Bous-sonlac. Originally a mercenary from Cleethorpes, he turned to religion. He was a local eccentric often carrying a knife and gun!!! After the incident in 1847, sonlac decided to take action and torched the ground floor and sealed the chamber.
