The internet is being boring, so: I dont give 2 shits about Animal Rights. I think pretending that animals have legal, political, social rights gives you a poor education about what rights are, the role they play in human society, and where they stem from. Rights are not things bestowed on whatever we have kindness or fondness for. If Im mauled by an animal, the animal is not put up on legal charges, it has no access to a lawyer, not asked to plead its case. That would be silly, because its an animal, and cannot be expected to be responsible for its actions, and cannot mentally take part in a legal proceeding. I think if individuals choose to not harm animals (with eyes, generally) as a lifestyle choice, thats fine for them, a noble act of sentimentality. Even if we as a species all decide to get our protein, or other needs, from sources that dont require animal slaughter, that sounds like a fine idea to me too. But dont be dragging the abstractions of human society, like rights and murder into the question. I see folks on FB becoming more and more concerned about the hardships of animals, and less and less concerned about the hardships of other fellow members of their human society. Because they dont feel a warm-and-fuzzy kindness towards the problematic, pain-in-the-ass behaviors of most fellow humans. In this way, the concept of animal rights may even be insidious.
