The kids did so well, these were the words I was trying to get out at Isaacs Memorial... Firstly thankyou, its a simple word but that thankyou is packed full. The way you have supported and cared for us, guided and connected with us has been vital. You have been our survival blanket, a steady hand to keep us on our feet. Your generosity, sensitivity and warmth will not be forgotten. Together we have got through this first few weeks and you have given us strength to get through the years to come. I took my sons Xander and Isaac up Snowdon the day before Isaac left us. It was wild and windy on the top, the cafe was closed so I couldnt pay 5 pounds for a soggy pie and the train wasnt running. Blinded by an uncertain mist, We linked arms walking up to the very pinnacle as together we couldnt be blown off, together we were stronger. Together we are stronger and you are helping us face this. Our grief is tremendous but our love is bigger. we are not grieving our sons death as we see it as ugly or unfair, we are grieving because we loved him truly. We are severely scarred but we will remember the emotional injury as a driving force to live life as Isaac did; an inquisitive and purposeful mind, an active and challenging body, a free and adventurous spirit. He was better than me. He was built to achieve great things whether it was academically, creatively or physically. The objects we have in the house evoke great memories. At the age of 3 and a half he tessellated triangles in a routine cut and stick exercise, much to his preschool teachers amazement, who called us into the school to see the work displayed on the wall. The next time we were called into the school it was because he had urinated in the girls playhouse and gashed a pupils head in a misunderstanding. This was Isaac. At taekwondo he won the Yorkshire championship in Leeds without losing a point, at the northern championships in Doncaster he displayed great skill and maturity, again winning, he decided this wasnt enough and the day was young, so he entered the older group competition in the afternoon to face fighters much older, he came third showing immense determination and craft. Im so proud that he passed on his skills to others, teaching younger children all that he had learnt. When the kids were asked to write a message of condolence for his family, we had lovely heart warming comments such as, Isaac was a great teacher, he used to kick me then punch me a lot. Isaac was xanders wrestle mate, they fought a lot, but laughed a lot, an embrace was often more of a choke hold or spear tackle but they were intensely protective of each other. Seeing how we have all come together makes me feel so proud. Anglesey has always been a great spiritual place for me and my family. When my wife and I had a severe car accident the first place we came was here, it continues to give us great comfort and solace. We will revisit, not with bitterness but with a greater connection to the land and its people. Thankyou.
