The kingdom of God must bring about the character of God. God has called us to holiness, righteousness and integrity. It is at times embarrassing to see the state of sin that exists in the church. We are not perfect and thank God for grace and mercy. But, we need to understand that we are saved to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, God has given us the capacity and the power to overcome sin and to live a victorious Christian life. The kingdom of God must result in dying to self and being filled with and controlled by the Holy Spirit. Kingdom life is spiritual life, a life that is saturated and dominated by the Holy Spirit. In prioritizing our relationship with God, we must refocus on and emphasize spiritual disciplines. The Bible indicates that the early church was committed to the apostles teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. These are the rudiments of kingdom living. The apostles teaching shows us that we must invest in studying, knowing and living out the Word of God. The fellowship speaks to the gathering of the saints, which is critical to our edification and the edification of others. The breaking of bread most likely refers to the Lords Supper, a supremely spiritual act that testifies to the grace of our Lord. Prayer is the means by which we connect to God and as it were release His purpose in the earth.
