The latest quarterly update of Australias National Greenhouse Gas Inventory highlights two things. Firstly, Australia is on track to achieve our target for international emissions reduction goals. Secondly, we are doing that without a carbon tax. In fact, the rate of emissions reduction during the two years of the carbon tax was only one-sixth of the rate of emissions reduction in the five years beforehand. This meagre reduction came at a price tag of $5,310 per tonne. The Carbon Tax was an ineffective and highly expensive system. The Coalition Government is on track to achieve our targets. We are doing the right thing internationally and we can achieve our targets without a massively expensive, $5,000 a tonne tax.
