The left will fight this tooth and nail. There should be little mystery why a simple one-year delay is such a crucial detail. Much more is at stake here. A one year delay would take us beyond the mid-term elections in which Democrats will most certainly lose seats in both houses. It is as predictable as gravity. The party in the White House loses seats during mid-term elections and this time around they stand to lose big. A one year delay could kill the whole thing before it ever "goes live".
