The linked video is of a motion proposed by our Cllr Mackey & seconded by New Hall’s Cllr Barrie to Council. The motion is in essence to ensure that when new developments are built there is a contribution made by the landowner/developer towards the infrastructure needed to make the development sustainable. Whilst the motion would apply across Birmingham it particularly focused on the 6,000 houses Labour plans to build on our Green Belt. Whilst we are still very much opposed to ANY building on the Green Belt if we should be unsuccessful in stopping it we want to make sure the Landowners & Developers contribute towards the road schemes, flood defences, schools, hospitals and other health and social care facilities, park improvements, green spaces and leisure centres that are not currently being paid for under Labour’s plans. Sutton Coldfield’s infrastructure is already under strain and currently the plans are simply wrong & it is always hardest to admit you have made a mistake & then do something about it. The fact the leader of the council & the cabinet member tried to top the motion being presented suggests Labour probably do know they are in the wrong…
