The most common argument for keeping the Indian mascot appears to be its always been the Indian, and thats that, end of story!. Folks, this is an incredibly flawed argument. Its a logical fallacy known as appeal to tradition. Just because something is old, that doesnt automatically make it right or good. Here are some things that lasted for hundreds or thousands of years that were traditional, but not good: - slavery - women not being allowed to vote, or to work - the belief that the world is flat - bloodletting, and other antiquated forms of medicine I think we call all agree that these traditions are outdated. Some traditions are good, and worth holding on to. Other traditions sometimes need to go, in light of changing times and opinions. There is a wave of change taking place across the country, and Indian mascots are being replaced with mascots that are unoffensive. Just something Id like everyone to consider. nizkor.org/features/fallacies/appeal-to-tradition.html
