The most important decision that a parent ever makes for his - TopicsExpress

The most important decision that a parent ever makes for his children is who the other parent is going to be. My standard for my own case is simple. If my children grew up to be just like their mother — and not like me — would I be happy for them? Would I be proud of them? Would I love who they were on the inside? And would they be equipped to be happy and successful people in a chaotic and changing world? I’ve known remarkably few women who I think would give those things to my children — and even fewer who might fall in love with me and have kids with me. But it seems that choosing someone who doesn’t meet that standard wouldn’t be fair to those theoretical future children. It’s a choice worth getting right. And so I wait.
