The movie “When they come” recounts the story of the origins of World War II – the Nazi Germany’s and Soviet Union’s invasion of Poland in September 1939, highlighting the terror of the occupation by two totalitarian regimes, the extermination of Polish elites and the Holocaust massacre. It also sheds light on the participation of Polish soldiers on the fronts of World War II, the phenomenon of the Polish Underground State – the biggest military and civil structure of this kind, the tragedy of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 and at the end of the movie the ostensible liberation of Poland and the process of seizing power by the Communists. The closing part of the movie presents some telling figures – 5.5 million killed, including 2.8 million Polish Jews, almost half of the pre-war territory lost in favour of the Soviet Union, a nearly 40 per cent drop in the pre-war economic state value. About 50 per cent of the national heritage was devastated or stolen. Only in Warsaw 85 per cent of the city was irrevocably destroyed. The narrator of the movie is Tomasz Sudoł, a young historian from the Institute of National Remembrance. Apart from archival document, also testimonies of witnesses, who survived the war were used. The film includes English subtitles. Share this movie with your friends. https://youtube/watch?v=sHb-qIJTZ-M#t=1050
