The next time anyone has a thought to bad mouth a shelter, go and work there one day. Clean cages, listen to the reasons animals are turned in, help a potential adopter pick a new family member, watch someone pick up their lost dog and enjoy the funny stories that often accompany these reunions (how the dog got out or where it was found), find a place to put the sixth litter of puppies or kittens that came in that day to an already full shelter, call owners of lost pets to see if their pet has come home, check lost reports against animals in the shelter and animals that have been found, take the dogs out to exercise, play with the kitties, and then tell me again why shelters are such bad places. I appreciate the shelter I work at, and the other shelters I have worked at or visited or have worked with in various endeavors. Nobody is perfect, some shelters are better than others. If you dont like what you see, suggest an alternative and do something to help. Otherwise just shut up and continue to live in your fantasy world that the dogs/cats are better off on the street with no certainty of food water shelter or companionship, and that there is a foster home or forever home for every stray in the county so it doesnt have to go to a shelter. Dont assume every stray has been dumped, it could have been lost from somewhere else or stolen and sold to someone else. If you still think shelters are horrible, come and do my job for one week.
