The older that I become, the more I appreciate just how hardcore and committed my mother has always been as a parent. I remember once during the TSU homecoming festivities, two of my teenage cousins and I actually stole an automobile. They were cought in the vehicle joy riding that Sunday, but I wasnt because I had gone home. But Ruth (my momma) said, Oh, no…you were with them also. She then drove me down to the police department and demanded that some sort of punishment be applied. The authorities were reluctant, but because of her persistence, I humbly spent the next few weekends picking up trash along side of the interstate with other petty young criminals. In many ways, I am grateful for the tenacity of this woman!
