The one world schoolhouse education reimagined- Salman Khan Some quotations from the book and some extentions Not allowing mixed age interactions Younger kids lose heroes and idols and mentors. Perhaps even more damagingly, older kids are deprived of a chance to be leaders, to exercise responsibility, and thereby infantilized. On learning something that is allowed to only a particular age group students. Separation by age If a student could demonstrate proficiency with a certain set of ideas and processes, why not let him/ her move on to more advance ones? I did not do this until I graduated. Wish that I could have done it earlier. We deny them the chance to mentor or help others, and we thereby conspire in their isolation and self-involvement. There is no reason to lump kids by age, still less to track them based on perceived potential. The older or more advanced students become allies of the teacher by mentoring and tutoring the kids who are behind. Younger ones gets benefited by having a range of role models, big brothers and big sisters. Older kids sharpen their understanding of concepts in the act of explaining them to younger kids. No one is just a student; everyone is a teacher as well, worthy of respect that goes with that. A similar argument can be said for anything and not just in education. It would be great if we abolish consumer provider relationship. The world would be rather more polite and progressive if we think that sometimes our so called customer will be a big help to the business or may be able to improve our ways to help people And by this argument I would also request Supreme Court of India to understand what bad is happening by restricting 1st year BTech students from meeting others. Also, the very fact that every engineer studied in India knows is now ragging happens during 2nd year of BTech. I think it is better to omit consumer -provider relationship by a peer helper- and a peer help seeker relationship. Mutual forum for learning/ working is exactly what it is. Reading few later pages of the book, which I somehow do not want to call last pages, I recommend this book to all the students because this may break or at least make you aware of the artificial setup created by our current education system
