The only appropriate measure of whether some other theory is too preposterous is whether it is any more preposterous than the official story is shaping up to be. The plane would have gone back onto radar if it had not changed direction more than once, and the recovery site is the very section of ocean that is furthest from any land. These coincidences, when added to the others, do not point to the accident that the airline and various governments are ultimately going to ask you to accept. Its the mathematical equivalent of the Warren Commission telling you that Lee Harvey Oswalds gun just went off a few times by accident while he was cleaning it near the window.
