:The palace seems rather empty without the Kauravas...Kurukshetra is such a dark war....maybe that is why the Mahabharata is a more fascinating and repelling epic than the others for it is essentially a story of family feuds that because it involved kings and a struggle for the throne...drew the whole country into horrific bloodshed and left most of the kings of ancient times dead, except the Pandavas...they also lost all their sons and were left heirless...a baby grandson managed to survive....such a story ripples with unease because all families have small ongoing feuds but this epic has such terrible repercussions...the Illiad and the Ramayana does not describe war within the family...the Odyssey talks about rather deadly travels and Beowulf is also different....it is only the Mahabharata which describes the terror of enmity deep rooted within the family...the foe who is your own brother....your own blood...your own shadow...
