The part I like is the emphasis on critical thinking and solving - TopicsExpress

The part I like is the emphasis on critical thinking and solving problems, but I dont like wading through information from sources that contradict each other. Common Core rubrics for English, including composition and comprehension, set clear goals to achieve, so thats good. Looking from left to right down the board, it looks like someone could be asked to read something like The Yellow Wallpaper, then write an opinion or interpretation of the short story using a predefined format, and to include graphics, media, etc. According to the rubric, you can accomplish this by demonstrating a rational interpretation with room to be unique, treating grammar usage with respect (for the sake of communicating effectively), and provide pictures or reviews from outside sources. You could also do this by writing HELP in yellow crayon on a piece of construction paper. I cant understand every nuance of the Common Core, but if mathematics is treated the same way we might as well forget about voluntary astronauts. Im disregarding all the images of worksheets floating around because I dont believe all of them are real. Two things: we know everyone has strengths, varying in number and nature. This is good. Why is it we cant find a method of finding what children excel in at an EXTREMELY EARLY AGE, when they are soaking everything up and concentrate on that? They will still learn the language and have friends, and will have spent their best learning years studying what they are built to do well. Parents take great measures to explore their kids potential to succeed when they are still very young. Is there a way to take the parents word for it when it comes to direction in education as a long term goal? A loud man with a big brain once said the schools must never be used to educate, but as labs. No one has more interest in honestly assessing a kids talents and weaknesses than his folkage, so as a haver of no kids and a haver of no doctorate, Im looking for answers.
