The power supply to the main terminal building at Bristol Airport - TopicsExpress

The power supply to the main terminal building at Bristol Airport failed at 03:00h today (Friday 6 June) causing significant disruption to departing flights. Power has since been restored but problems persist with some automated systems, including baggage belts, resulting in delays for passengers checking in. No flights have been cancelled to date but departures are likely to be subject to delays throughout the rest of the day. There could also be knock-on effects on arrivals as a result of aircraft and crew being out of position. Bristol Airport apologises for the inconvenience caused to passengers whose travel plans have been disrupted. Additional staff have been called in and all efforts have been made to keep passengers informed as updates become available. Refreshments have been offered in the form of bottled water and meal vouchers and additional seating provided in the departure lounge. Initial investigations suggest the power failure was caused by a small electrical fire which also affected back up power supplies. A full enquiry will be carried out to ensure measures can be taken to avoid any repeat of this situation in future.
