The prevailing mentality of not examining preachers and pastors in the light of the scriptures has become the norm in India. I just want to reiterate that the pastors and preachers are not above the scriptures nor above the authority. Let me give you two biblical reasons why we should test every person that preaches the Gospel. 1) The Bereans (Acts 17:11) tested with all eagerness whether what the Apostle Paul was saying was Biblical or not. 2) The Apostle John says beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1). Well, in order to be a discerning Christian, what must one do? He/She must read the word of God on regular basis. For goodness sake, dont say anything that you dont know anything about. Nothing is so dangerous than a confused mind who hasnt understood proper theology of the Bible.
