The psychiatrist gives me ambien to help me sleep. One, that isnt too effective and Two, sometimes Ive forgotten I have taken one, wake up after a short daze and take another...rinse repeat. No go. Even without the side effects, if I do t falla sleeps within the extremely short period where its effective, it does nothing. Lunesta ... Very similar to Ambien in structure but longer acting and doesnt have that annoying side effect which can have me walking around dreaming, which obviously is a dangerous thing to do. There still is no generic however and it is too expensive considering that even though its longer acting, it still has that small window where it works. My primary care gives me Temezepam. Works quite a bit better than Ambien and doesnt have the nasty waking, walking dream side effect sometimes present that I get. Unfortunately, the psychiatrist says not to take it with me other medication as its dangerous. The psychiatrists from UVA and another sleep specialist say that there isnt any issue with the two, but I have to stop the Temezepam anyways or my psychiatrist will stop treating me. Anything with diphenhydramine (benadryl, sominex, Tylenol pm, etc) might j help occasionally but if taken two nights in a row the no help period. Melatonin doesnt seem to do anything. Ive tried different dosages, neither was successful. Meditation or exercise before bed does help me fall asleep faster than normal, but as with all of the above, doesnt solve the problem. The issue is my mind will not shut off. If I need to be up at 7am and need 7-8 hours sleep (I cant remember last time I had that), then I would need to lay down to bed at 6-7pm and hole to be asleep by midnight or so. The issue doesnt end there however. Every two hours almost on the dot I will wake up and it will take 20-30 minutes to fall back asleep. There doesnt seem to be any stimuli I can point to as the cause. Dont have to go to the bathroom (well obviously sometimes I do but...),.. I do have extremely strange dreams though but nothing that would frighten me awake. I dont have nightmares. The intensity of the dreams may be whats waking me though, but on a two hour schedule? I need to research this but isnt it a bit uncommon for the brain to be able to enter that state of REM sleep so quickly? When I eventually fall back asleep after waking, the dreams usually pick up where they left off anyways. When I wake up every two hours, I also have strange, well Id describe them as hot flashes but they arent. My body feels flushed or sometimes even as of it had been binded by very thin wire. The doctors Ive seen are all at a loss and the medications that would work would get me kicked out of my treatment program which has saved me, so thats not an option. Has anybody else had the unfortunate fate of this happening to them? And if so, have you found a fire for it? This has been going on for maybe 2 years or a little less. I cannot remember when I had a full night, normal sleep. Well yes, I can. I did sleep better last night then I have in as long as I remember. This is really having a bad impacts, as even though I do get around - hours of sleep a night (more or less) on the cycled sleep, Im not ever able to obtain a healthy deep sleep state. I tried briefly to Google it, but for frustrated due to all the different symptoms and complexity of each one. If was hard enough trying to explain it here. Thanks :)
