The purported press conference addressed by Brigadier General - TopicsExpress

The purported press conference addressed by Brigadier General Olajide Laleye yesterday concerning General Buhari’s academic record with the Army is a clear indication how the once revered and respected Nigerian Army has been bastardised and desecrated under the Jonathan’s presidency. This is extreme bad politics and desperate tactics orchestrated by those who are afraid of imminent defeat on the 14th February 2015. I just hope they do not complete destroy the Army, one of the most national institution that has held the fabric of this country. The Nigerian Army was founded almost 150 years ago. It is composed of Nigerians from every ethnic nationality and religious faith. It therefore follows that it will be a dangerous precedent if the integrity of the Army is destroyed on ground of political expediency. If it is true that General Laleye has been deployed to Benin why should he call a press conference to discuss General Buhari’s certificate? It goes without saying that if General Laleye has been transferred from his previous position as Director of Army Public Relations Department to Benin he cannot no longer purport or represent or hold out himself as the Army Spokesman. It follows that General Laleye had no modicum of authority to talk about the issue he spoke on yesterday. It goes without saying that General Laleye’s press conference is illegal. This is a clear case of gross indiscipline and insubordination shown by General Laleye; and the Army should discipline him forthwith. Is it not the same General Laleye who told us on the 4th January 2015 that the Army is in possession of the Certificates of General Buhari? In any case, despite all his shenanigan , General Laleye has unwittingly confirmed that General Buhari attended Secondary School and was in Form Six when is Principal wrote to the Army recommending him for a Commission. General Laleye also confirmed that the Army Board screened General Buhari before he was finally commissioned after ensuring that he met the requirement for a Commission. General Laleye confirmed that Genera Buhari has Five Credits and a Pass in his School certificate examination. The minimum Constitutional/educational requirement for a presidential candidate is that such a candidate be educated at last to school certificate level or its equivalent. General Buhari has more than enough satisfied the minimum constitutional/ educational requirement to contest for the President f the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In the case of Dr. Paul Oluohu Ukpo versus Unim Musa Adede (2003) 3 NWLR (Pt. 755) 671, the allegation was that Musa Adede, a Senator elected under the platform of the PDP to represent Cross River Northern Senatorial district was not qualified to contest the election was dismissed by the Court of Appeal, Calabar Division on the ground that there was evidence that the 1st Respondent (Unim Musa Adede) attended Mary Knoll College, Ogoja and read up to school certificate. In that case Musa Adede only tendered his STATEMENT OF RESULT Not SCHOOL CERTIFICATE. OKOI OBONO-OBLA
