The purpose of the event is to fundraise to enable Samantha, aged 20 and Jacob Harrison, aged 18 to work in Tanzania and Thailand with Lasallian Developing World Projects this summer. This will be Samantha’s third project, having already spent one summer in Kenya and another India. The work with Lasallian Developing World Projects, a registered Charity is deliberately practical in nature, providing an on-going contribution to the lives of children and communities. This organisation has been working in the Third World undertaking development projects in schools since 1985. Both Samantha and Jacob will be staying in simple accommodation within the community for five weeks. Their role, with a group of 11 other young people aged 18-21, will be to build accommodation and teach children from the neighbourhood, commonly known as the slums. Having witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of poverty, Samantha can assure people that the work of Lasallian has direct and permanent benefits. The journey, accommodation and contribution towards building materials cost in the region of £1300, which Samantha and Jacob have to raise. Thus far this has been partially achieved through coffee mornings, cake baking, car boot sales and completion of the Bath Half Marathon by Samantha.
