The recent deaths of several Florida horses due to monensin toxicity are just one example of how the ingestion of toxic substances can quickly become a life-threatening emergency for horses. On this weekends Animal Airwaves-Live, Dr. Amanda House, a board-certified large animal internal medicine specialist and equine extension veterinarian, will discuss common feed and pasture plant toxicities seen in horses, what they mean to horses health-wise, when to call the veterinarian and what horse owners can do to minimize the chances of such problems developing.
