The searing opener from Whitehouses 2001 album; the highlight of the Bennett/Sotos/Best collaboration for me (though Quality Time comes close), and the first of the final four Whitehouse albums which represented the pinnacle of achievement for the project, and to my tastes their finest work. Cruise is a conceptually brilliant album - from the remarkable cover statement to the ingenious sequencing of tracks (a truly important and under-appreciated aspect of album construction) which makes for the first fifteen minutes (or side A) of the album in particular being some of the most exhilarating music Ive ever heard - which probably had the act lose as many of their old fans as they gained new ones (myself included in the latter, it was this album - after years of hearing bits and pieces of their previous music and being equally repulsed and intrigued by it - that was the first that I loved right from the outset). Some of the often amusing feedback to this album upon its release ranged from arty-farty crap by 3 totally objectionable sleazebags to seems to sort of aptly represent the new fanbase of gay men and straight women. count me out.
