The shirt I am wearing now was made in Serbia, which is where I bought it while on a river cruise across Europe. We went from Constanta on the black sea to Amsterdam, and one port was Belgrade. We saw the buildings bombed by the US during the war, and, as I needed a shirt, we went shopping. The shirts were on the second story of the department store. Money was scarce in Serbia at this time, and we were almost the only customers in the clothing department. No ones English was strong, and, of course, as Americans, we knew no Serbish. Still we got a sales crew together and I bought a short sleeved white shirt. Some what dressy. Its label says Milanovic/ 1992/ Knjazevac That last word is the name of the town in which the shirt was made. I bought it around 2004 (?) and wore it today. Looking down the line in my closet for the places in which my daily shirts (not my law suit shirts, which are fancier) were made we find: Switzerland, then an unnamed country but a shirt I bought in Barcelona, one my sweetie made, Honduras, Mar\uritius, another from my sweetie, Bangldesh (but designed in Italy), Macau, Hong Kong (2), Costa Rica, Korea, a 3rd by my sweetheart, Hong Kong (fabric woven in Austria). Malaysia, Vietnam (I bought this silk shirt on the 2nd floor of a department store in Ho Chi Mihn City for about $10 whille on a cruise of SE Asia), Malaysia, Hong Kong (2 more), home, China, Thailand, assembled in Mexico, USA, home (2), unknown, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, unknown, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, home (2), Australia, unknown (Fashion from the orient) home, China. What a lot of shirts I have, and what a tribute to globalization my closet is. Some of these are, of course, law shirts that became a bit too frazzled for courtroom wear, and a bit too good for the rag bag. Today we went to the dermatoligist, tomorrow to Pure Schmindt players at the Garberville Theater. Our dermatologist is Dr. McClintock in Ukah. He has the distinction of being older than me, and still working. And he is really good. Our Eureka dermatologist was more a front for beauty products, and every 6 months the actinic keroses were back. When the Doc freezes them, they stay froze. Today we remove a troubling spot from my left hand just south of the thumb, which is perpetually irritated by my glove or getting bumped. We froze it a year ago, and here it was, back again. So he cut it out. Ill know next week if I should have been worried but it wont matter because its gone. Me too for the evening. Its sleepy time out west. May your clothing be global in that it benefits poor workers the world round, and yet ecological in that it si all natural fibers like cotton, wool, and polyester. Good night, friends, sleep well.
