The step by step undermining of education has been going on for years. One example. No Child Left Behind claimed everyone would succeed in school. There would be no consideration of natural intellect, ability, economic background, cultural language, access to outside opportunities, nor any other considerations. Everyone would pass the tests. The tests would be changed regularly so what was on the next test was never clear. Emphasis would be placed upon chosen subjects over others. History, civics, art, and music would be ignored. Every child and class would reach a set level by a set date. As time passed it became clear this was not going to succeed. Political lambasting emphasized that schools were failing. This gave an excuse to create charter schools that would not have to meet the set criteria. Next privatization was emphasized, which was the real intent from the beginning. End public schools and get the government out of education. Finance the new schools privately. Select the gifted and well connected to attend. Give them the best of everything. Set up poorly financed schools for the students that would supply the manual labor including people for the service industries. The upper classes get the high level jobs and everyone else fills the lower rungs of society. Teachers in the poorer schools would be paid less and serve the warehousing of the lower classes. There would be a move to reduce educational training for these teachers. Why train them at high levels? They would not be expected to set any expectation of class mobility for their students anyway.
