The strategic intent in relation to keeping the Charters Towers economy charged is contained in the Economic Development Plan adopted by Council in February 2013. Charters Towers is open for business and we have had many approaches in recent months in relation to private investment in our community. Yes there are challenges, many Councils are competing for much of the same private investment. State and Federal Governments are attempting to encourage private investment and they are fast tracking this through the reduction of Red Tape. Council has land available for industrial and residential development. Cunningham Industrial estate is in the market place at present and more land was approved for release to market today. We are actively engaged through participation at regional economic development group meetings and have direct input into the development of other regional strategies. Recently the NQ2031 Regional Economic Development Plan was released and Charters Towers Regional Council has the lead on two of the initiatives contained in the Plan. Those being Unlocking Resources Wealth and Building a Knowledge and Services Economy This is only one of the many Plans that provide the strategic intent of your Council.
