The sun was just beginning to peek over the treetops as I was - TopicsExpress

The sun was just beginning to peek over the treetops as I was driving to work this morning. A reminder of a new day and renewed opportunities to be thankful, to give generously, to share hope. A week ago today David Sparks and I sat side by side on his hospital bed as Dr. Altstadt delivered the news about the progression of his cancer. There was a brief moment when we thought he was trying to tell us that they werent going to do anything, that things had gone too far. He was giving us options. He did not push the surgery on David and I, but did lay out the possible outcome should we decide to make a different choice. There really wasnt a choice. His heart broke for us. You could hear it in his voice. Thursday following the surgery as Dr. Altstadt was filling us in on all they had done I reiterated to him how grateful we were that he was willing to do the surgery even with his tight schedule last week. He simply looked at me and said, I couldnt leave and enjoy my vacation without giving all of us peace of mind. Giving generously and sharing hope. We have come a long way from sitting side by side on his hospital bed reaching out for hope. In a weeks time three sets of physician teams have studied all that he has going on and one by one they have eliminated a significant issue. Tomorrow is the last of the surgical solutions. Then Dr. Woo will take over and start to help eliminate the other cancer sites that remain. Just like the swiftness of this cancer, we can quickly become overwhelmed by the difficulties of life. It is natural and healthy to feel sadness and fear and anger...but its not healthy to hold on to those things. Monday of last week was a difficult one, and not one that I handled well at all. While David was trying to absorb all of the news, he was trying to take care of me at the very same time. I left his hospital room that night feeling like God was letting us down. He wasnt, not for a single moment. Because as swiftly as this cancer has progressed, brilliant, confident, knowledgable physicians have reacted just as swiftly. The outcome will be different because of their gifted hands and their abilities. Today is our opportunity. Be thankful. Give generously. Share hope!
