The sweet spot between upscale and down home? Sorry, not buying it. Theres nothing down home about gentrification, and many locals are decrying the loss of their small-town ethos. Not far away from downtown is a more sudden reality; long lines of people at the food bank desperate to feed their families. $700 a night hotels dont make this a nice little town, they make it another place for rich people to wander around drinking and buying expensive things from shops who cater to them. The Smithsonian? Oh well. Isnt it nice when entitled people celebrate themselves.
