ABOUT TULANI: Tulani, formally known as Rashida Jolley, is one of the most unique emerging artists today. She is a singer, songwriter & harpist who toured with Lady Gaga on one of the biggest tours in the world, and appeared on NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent,” where she quickly became a fan favorite, receiving standing ovations for every performance. She has also appeared on the BET Rap It Up Tour, opened up for John Legend, and Musiq Soulchild, and received accolades for her performance at the Ludacris Foundation’s Tribute to Quincy Jones. The product of a long-line of musicians, her father, the late Noble Jolley Sr., a renowned jazz guitarist, earned Howard University’s first degree in Jazz Studies and mentored Tulani in music and performance. When she was seven years old, Tulani began singing lead in the church choir and started studying the harp at age 10. It was her mother’s suggestion to combine her vocal style of R&B, pop, soul and funk with the harp. It was then, when she began composing songs on the harp, which became part of her performance. She has been honored by CVS & Rolling Out Magazine as a beauty and fashion icon, being presented with the Mirror Mirror award, and is the recipient of the Young and Powerful for Obama Organizations Rising Star Award, and the Young and Powerful for Obama Organizations Trailblazer Award. Because of Tulanis charming personality and personal mission, she shares messages of following your dreams as she travels across the country when she is not performing, engaging audiences with her public speaking. She is the Arts and Anti-Bullying Ambassador for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, and in February 2014 released the BE YOU EP featuring the kids of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington where a portion of proceeds will go to help fund their Arts programs. She is also the Arts Ambassador for The Foundation For The Advancement of Music & Education Inc. (F.A.M.E.) and has an ongoing event & campaign partnership to raise heart health awareness as an Ambassador for the American Heart Association. Tulani appears in the Emmy Award winning HBO Documentary “HBO Presents Lady Gaga in The Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden.” In addition, she has appeared on The Today Show, Mo’Nique, NBC, FOX 5, WJLA 7, BET, MTV, Belgium TV, German TV, and E! Entertainment Television Network. In print, Tulani has been featured on the cover of On Tap Magazine, and has been featured in Glamour Magazine, Ebony Magazine, Essence Magazine, Sister to Sister Magazine, Uptown Magazine, US Weekly Magazine, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, Washington Life and Baltimore Sun newspapers. Her radio interviews include Radio One, NPR and Voice of America, V103 among others. Her music is a blend of Pop, Funk and Soul. She is set to release her single and music video during the summer of 2014.
