The unique journey of my dollar On a recent visit to Toronto, I bought a tuxedo for a wedding I plan to attend next month. The jacket did not fit right and had to go for alteration. When I came back to pick it up a week later, it was still not back and after a great rush, they managed to bring it from their alterations department from the other side of town – but the fitting was still not great. I agreed to take it but just then noticed a black stain on the back, which had been caused somewhere on its journey. They could not remove the stain and gave me my money back. C’est la vie, I thought. It was not meant to be. Several weeks later I made a short stop over in Singapore and walked into a small mall next to my hotel, to be greeted by a young man standing outside his tailoring shop. He insisted I come in and take a look at his products. He offered to make me a tuxedo, and whatever else I wanted, made to measure! I agreed and he did a great job. When I paid him, I learned that he supported several orphanages locally for children with Downes syndrome and that he was having a bad month in business, which worried him immensely, not just for himself but for the orphans. He advised me that the business I had just given him would see them through financially for the month. What an amazing experience – my dollar did not get spent in Canada and travelled all the way to Singapore to find its recipient! My dear friends, resources always find their recipients independent of time or geography. Every dollar that comes to us, or leaves us, is on a journey with a specific purpose…let’s treat it with utmost respect. ©Amyn Dahya Have a great weekend my dear friends, and be blessed always...
