The very distinguished gentleman and Attorney at Law Ngo Sourie Turay:A paragon of moral excellence standing tall among todays unprincipled and morally bankrupt politicians. ------------------------------------------ So often as it was the case when I was a contributing writer on the Bintumani forum,I took breaks from the fluidity of local and national politics to salute people whose contributions one way or the other impacted the lives of fellow citizens either negatively or positively. With little tinkering of Shakespearean couplet,I have decided to make honorable mention of a very worthy citizen who has not only emerged as moral leader but is an embodiment of that noble creed that have it :Manners maketh man. Ngo Sourie as I fondly call him to underscore my abiding respect for I have for me has been observed by me from without for very long time from the classrooms of the Bo Government Secondary School where he had the distinct honor and privilege of being a member of the exclusive club of society of prefects in a senior capacity,to brief stint as instructor at the CKC ,higher learning in the university of Sierra Leone (Fourah Bay College),to the teaching classrooms of the Prince of Wales School, and a government civil servant, finally ending in the private sector. Along the way however in the government service two things happened that today considerably shapes the values that are representative of his person. 1.Through sheer intellectual firepower,he became one of Ms.Talabi Lucans boys in the education sector, and in the Government Ministry he served as Assistant Permanent Secretary,he saw how easy it was to make fast and corrupt money but because of his personal moral integrity and commitment to time tested values, and perhaps cognizant of that noble creed manners maketh man,he resisted the expediency of capitulating to short term gains at the expense of his integrity. So he gave qualitative service to his nation who invested in his education through scholarship without taking them to the dry cleaners washing them of every penny he could lay hands on. Could that be said of guys like Philip Lukulay,Soloku Bockarie, and the miscellaneous collection of others who through rapacious conducts bled their nation to death in the cause of service to them?.An emphatic no. Ngo Sourie is not part of the political class purely by choice because he has for reasons that underpins time tested values, professional ethics being a Lawyer, and other mitigating factors turned down opportunities to be part of the political class by both the SLPP and APC.He has strong ties to both Ahmed Tejan Kabbah,Ernest Bai Koroma, and other members of the political establishment and if he is the man given to opportunism,he will have long joined the politicians. In terms of being a member of parliament, the Bo Town One constituency that was held be people like Mohamed Joe Kamanda Bongay ,Amara Bun Fofanah,Cyril Patrick Foray and others to cite few will have been hiss if he had elected to go into partisan politics. Now comes the inevitable question that seeks to know why Ngo Sourie Turay with his intellectual firepower that was brought to bear on guys like George Gobio Lamin and others, from both parties, cosmopolitan experiences, and personal moral integrity steadfastly refused to be an integral part of the political process?. The answer is very simple. In todays politics in contemporary Sierra Leone on both sides of the political divide, things like integrity, straight forwardness, and patriotism have been relegated to Bomeh project. In their stead have been substituted, sycophancy, mediocrity ,lip service, praise singing, get rich quick schemes, and unpatriotism. Since Ngo Sourie is resolved not to injure his solid credentials he assiduously labored to build over the years,he wisely decided to observe the political governance from the trenches of the sideline with the hope that someday the nation will fashion a political process that puts the well being of the citizenry over parochial considerations in a democratic environment based on the rule of law. Ngo Sourie Turay,a model of time tested values who places personal moral integrity and unwavering commitment to principles over opportunistic calculations.
