The way many people approach and read the Bible is a hindrance at every turn in ones spiritual growth and development. Do not read the Bible for the purpose of creating a belief system about God. Let go of the whole construct and mentality of using Bible verses to argue and defend some theological position. This is not what the Bible is for, and the reason why this path ultimately doesnt lead anywhere useful is because it is a violation of the intent, nature, and purpose of the Bible. People get mired into the specifics of the Bible, and cant see the forest for the trees. The Bible can be a useful tool in clearing away the debris that clouds your perception. But it does this in a bit of a sneaky or subversive way that many people miss because they read the Bible as if it is a theological treatise about God, religious rule book, or a formula for relating to the divine. Many people who have come out of religion wont be able to read the Bible in any useful way because the lens through which they read the Bible is greatly distorted. Its not uncommon for a person to need several months and even years of not reading the Bible in any kind of consistent way in order to overcome this. This is okay. The authority for your spiritual life is inside you and is you. Its that Self that is one with God. Its not a thing you can hold in your hands, its spirit and is your fundamental nature and essence. That Self is wisdom - it sees and knows all things as they are. Get to know that Self.
