The weekend cometh CHCH, so what’s doin’? Tonight the Christchurch City Choir and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra join forces for the popular annual belt-out of Handel’s master work, the Messiah – a performance now in its 23rd year. The concert starts at St Margaret’s College at 7:30pm. Tomorrow sees the gourmet delight that is the Christchurch | South Island Wine & Food Festival open up its Hagley Park marquees to lovers of fine drops and nosh. Start sampling from 11:30am and don’t miss Pegasus Bay Winery, Vineyard, and Restaurant, Waipara Hills Wine, BASE Woodfired Pizza, Clink Restaurant and Tequila Mockingbird among others. You could head in to the fest after showing some homeless hounds some love and joining festivities at the Second Chance Dog Rescue CHCHs Garage Sale Fundraiser at 569 Marshland Road from 9am. It’s early December now and that means Christmas (apparently). You can get into the swing of things on Saturday at Carols in the Square with a market-style party from 4pm, before the festive sing-a-long kicks off from 6pm. If Carols are too tame, swing by the Allen st Rock Club and check out the Living Dolls Inc Dollywood Christmas Show for a night of festive burlesque from 7pm. You can also check out the Court Jester’s Christmas effort, A Very Merry Scriptless – Over The Top (featuring Cityscapes own short back and sided subbie Ben Allan), which takes Christmas back to the trenches of WWI on the hundredth anniversary of the conflict. Cue improvised hilarity with a touch of poignancy at The Court Theatre from 8pm (Friday and Saturday). Then on Sunday line up down Riccarton Road for a glimpse of the Jolly Old Elf himself, with the Christchurch New Zealand Santa Parade kicking off at the corner of Wharenui & Riccarton Roads at 2pm and making its way down Riccarton Road to Mandeville Street. Ho ho ho! That’s a wrap!
