The worth Theatre had a Wurlitzer pipe organ . The pipes were behind louvers built into the walls on either side of the screen and the keyboard would rise out of the floor on the left . They used to have an organist play on the weekends and special shows.i dont know if they played to silent movies but I know they played for singalongs where the audience would sing the lyrics projected on the screen. The organ had been out of service for many years when I went to work there but a man whose name I dont remember who took the electrical engineer job just so he could restore the organ got it working. If I went in early he would fire up that pipe organ and lets play on it. Wow! The power. It had 4 circular keyboards and special sound effects. The stop that said auto horn was an aooga horn. Behind the curtain on the stage was a Steinway concert grand piano . I got to slide the cover off and play on a great instrument, Backstage on each side there were stairs going up 3 or 4 floors where there were dressing rooms with makeup lights and mirrors for performers abandoned and covered with dust.
