Theft trend: Motor vehicles stolen while being “warmed up.” As it gets cooler overnight, many of us have a tendency to want to “warm up” our cars and trucks in the morning. For those of us who park our vehicles outside, getting the defroster going lets us avoid using “elbow grease” scraping the frost off the windshield. Unfortunately, every year there are thefts of running motor vehicles left unattended. The vehicles are often found later stripped of parts and sometimes burned. Most modern cars don’t require being “warmed up.” Consider placing an old sheet across the top your car parked outside to keep the windshield, side mirrors and rear window from getting frosted over. Better yet, have your cranky teenager clean it off! Planning ahead for the extra few minutes each morning to get your car ready to go sure beats walking to work and all the other headaches that go along with your car getting stolen!
