There are a number of South Africans living in the US who are thriving, Brand SA country manager Simon Barber said on Friday. There are about 80 to 85 000 South African born people who are permanently living in the United States now, he said in Washington. They are exceptional people in terms of professions, in terms of net worth, in terms of their education level. This is South Africas view: Its ironic that Brand SA has jumped aboard the bandwagon and highlighted the success of South African expatriates living in USA Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe, especially the UK also have millions of ex South Africans who are doing exceptionally well for themselves in those countries too However, Brand South Africa has overlooked the real reasons why so many South Africans have left S.A. to seek pastures greener Security: The main driving point is the issue of crime in SA where young families just dont feel safe in their homeland. A largely incompetent, slack and corrupt police force is another contributing factor. South Africas reputation of having one of the highest murder and rape rates on the planet also leaves people very concerned for the well being of their family and friends . Add a judicial system that grants a majority of murderers and rapists bail and takes months and sometimes years to get suspects to court and you have many reasons to feel unsafe. The bottom line is, people do not feel safe in South Africa, even in their own homes that are often furnished with alarms, razor wire, electric fences and panic buttons, its like living in a luxurious prison that keeps the criminals out. Education: Many South African families are well aware that the ruling ANC have almost destroyed the education system in SA. With a pass rate at a lowly 30%, parents have no choice but to look outside of South Africa to provide their kids with a recognisable and decent education A majority of South African universities have also lowered the bar in regards to the syllabus they teach and a degree from most universities and colleges in South Africa isnt worth the paper its printed upon, often with grammatical errors.. Healthcare: Although many countries provide both private and state healthcare, South Africas state hospitals have gone to ruin under ANC rule. South African state facilities were once the best hospitals on the continent, a majority are are now septic and incapable institutions run by staff who just dont seem to give a damn Most South Africans nemesis is being injured and trapped in a sate hospital where it can take hours and often days to be attended to. If one can afford private healthcare in SA, its a blessing, but this comes at a cost. Escalating living costs: The recent barrage of fuel price hikes combined with SANRALs (Gauteng based) E-Toll system has pushed up the cost of living tremendously over the past 48 months. Food prices have escalated as has clothing, electronics and anything imported as the Rand continues to slide in value South African consumers are tightening their belts and this combined with an impending recession is a reason for concern as companies look to shed jobs in order to reduce overheads. ANC invoked Racism: The ANCs BEE policy has been one of the major factors that have driven 40+ (mainly white) skilled South Africans out of South Africa. After all, how can one support and feed a family when the government denies you the right to work? They like South Africans because we have a can do attitude and work hard. Unfortunately, South Africa the country that needs us and our skills the most denies us the right to work based on the single credential of skin colour The fact that we have a president who sings about killing whites at every whim also makes born and bred white South Africans feel unwelcome in their nation of birth. Conclusion: Brand SA believes it has a good story to tell about South Africans working and doing well for themselves abroad. The #ANC and Jacob Zuma would be very proud of Brand SAs patriotic reporting All that Brand SAs report did was cover the crap with perfume, but they ignored the true facts and factors that are driving skilled South Africans out of their country of birth. A country they still love, but no longer like to, or enjoy living in. This is South Africa: Admin 1
