There are new scams popping up all of the time. One that seems to resurface though is the grandchild in trouble. The scammer will call, posing as your grandchild and tell you that they have either been in an accident in another country, or that they were with someone that got into trouble with the law and tell you that they have been arrested. They will ask you to go to a retail store and purchase a money order and wire it to an address. They may also put someone else on the phone that poses as an attorney, and that person will tell you that for a certain amount of money they can get your grandchild out of trouble with the law. I have heard from two people in the last couple weeks that have had this scam attempted on them. If this happens to you, please contact your local law enforcement. We can contact the authorities in another jurisdiction and determine that this is legitimate, or that it is a scam. You can also contact the parents of the grandchild and ask them if they know where their children are, or you can contact your grandchild directly and ask them if they are in trouble. Please be careful and ask someone elses advice before you send money or a money order to anyone. Once you send it, you will never get it back.
