"There are one hundred and twenty verses that urge that Islam be spread only with kind and clear advice and totally reject the forcing of anyone to accept the faith. However, some people of the Hadith falsely give precedence over all of those verses to the single Hadith that says, ‘I am sent with a sword at the end of time’. The level of authenticity of this Hadith is weak. However, even if it were authentic, it would have meant that Muslims might use force only when there is a need for it! Islam is the religion of mercy, whenever appropriate, and struggle, whenever appropriate. Similarly, some of those people cite the Hadith that says, ‘I am ordered to fight those people until they declare that there is no god but God …’. There is a consensus among scholars that this Hadith is talking about a certain group of people, not all people. The problem with those people of Hadith is that they understand the narration in a certain way and claim that what they understood is exactly what the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) meant. Then, they blatantly accuse of disbelief, defame, and even fight anybody who disagrees with them."
