There are some days in life when you realize its all worth it. Today is one of those for me. My Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the Living Wage Expansion Bill in the Bronx, where this battle began in the Armory Struggle twenty years ago. A city-wide community, labor and faith coalition has journeyed together for years to see that all New Yorkers are paid a living wage. Tonight my cup runneth over. The friends I made in this activist struggle are too many to name, but I consider each one of you a compa. I am grateful that El Dios de los Pobres has carefully placed and planted Sarah Herman Heltzel and me in the Big Apple to bear a little witness in faith houses and opera houses, bringing beauty, justice and hope to our beloved city!
