There has been massive complaints across the internet in the last 48hrs about the NBN network. Let’s get everything clear from the start, The Government is proposing a Hybrid system. This means FTTN (Fiber to the Node) to existing premises, all new premises will get FTTP (Fiber to the Premises). The reason for using this Hybrid system is, you imagine going to every single home in Australia and figuring out where the existing copper lines are, how to get to them (if it be through your garden or ripping up your driveway) and how to put the new Fiber in its place. Every single home would be different.. This is a massive waste of time and money when we need faster speeds now, not in years time. The Government is promising something realistic. 25mbps is the minimum speeds they are promising, but if you look at the actual speeds that can be put through a copper line, you’ll be surprised with up to 10gbps. 100mbps promised by the labor government is a theoretical peek bandwidth, while the actual bandwidth you get will be affected by latencies. Imagine your standard sized tap is the internet and when turned on full will output 10litres a minute. Now your Water provider gives you the same thick hose a fireman uses and say’s when we attach this hose to your tap it will give you up to 1000litres a minute. Now turn your tap on full, is it giving the 1000litres a minute like your water provider said? No I think not.. It will only output what the internet is capable of. FTTN can provide up to 1gbps, but the government is playing it safe by promising a realistic guaranteed 25mbps to each home. But I’m in an old estate, so my internet quality won’t be as good. Internet Quality? What’s that? Internet is digital, you can’t loose quality on digital.. You either get it or you don’t. Have you ever seen a digital tv or digital radio fuzz? I thought so.. If you are in a new estate or have FTTP, Congrats.. Your getting pretty much the same as every customer who has FTTN. FTTN is a Massive step forward for Australia, and can provide the same theoretical speeds as promised by labor Government. FTTN can be rolled out in a very short amount of time, and in doing so you are still laying out fiber to every street. So when the time comes and is needed, 80% of the work is already completed and Australia can easily take that next step forward to FTTP for ridiculously fast speeds that will never be reached. Quit complaining, The government has a very smart plan to get you faster internet speeds sooner rather than later.
