There has been negative press surfacing on the Ice Bucket - TopicsExpress

There has been negative press surfacing on the Ice Bucket Challenge (IBC) regarding how the ALS Association (ALSA) spends donations and their attempts to trademark the name Ice Bucket Challenge. In an earlier post I addressed the spending issue. Now Ill share a quote from the National ALSA office. Message from Barbara Newhouse, President and CEO of The ALS Association, regarding trademarking the IBC name: “The ALS Association filed for these trademarks in good faith as a measure to protect the Ice Bucket Challenge from misuse after consulting with the families who initiated the challenge this summer. However, we understand the public’s concern and are withdrawing the trademark applications. We appreciate the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who has taken the challenge and donated to ALS charities.” I have been working with ALSA since 2004 and been a member on the Board of Directors of the Golden West Chapter since 2008. I have spent hundreds of hours volunteering to raise awareness and to date close to $500,000 for the chapter. Those who know me will hopefully attest to my commitment to support an organization that bears only the highest level of integrity, honesty and fiduciary responsibility. The IBC is a great vehicle for all ALS charities and The ALS Association will continue to be the responsible leader it has always been in the fight to end ALS.
