There is a disaster project being prepared in the backdoors for Tal District in Tripoli of which to transform the current square park in front of the clock tower where the old Ottoman Saray was demolished into an underground Taxi Garage. This means more cars, more congested traffic and more pollution. The beneficiaries from this project are unknown and pretty much hidden for now. On the other hand we have proposed to transform Tal into a pedestrian only district. This courageous decision must be taken by the Municipality by proposing a full closure of auto traffic starting from Nawfal Palace all the way to Saray Atika and by installing two Taxi Stations on the north and the south side of tripoli and by connecting Tal by means of public transportation bus or tram as you typically see in other cities around the globe. The idea is to rejuvenate the center of the city, reduce traffic, and connect it eventually with the old and historic Tripoli therefore we encourage tourism and revive the private sector. This project if administdred, planned and managed right it will transform Tripoli from being a dormant city to a vibrant one given the amount of heritage and sightseeing areas this city possesses that are currently neglected. The vision of this project is well thought of but it is paramount we insure support and back up for it to see light. In this project we are also proposing the rebuilding of the old Ottoman Saray and an underground garage underneath to become a cultural center and a station for social and economic events. The ideas are plentiful and ready but we need people in power who will help make those ideas and visions become real. We look forward to expanding on the subject among others. Our main concern is to implement and help the private sector to innovate and progress which eventually such project will create job opportunities and help this beloved city to regain its status. The head of council of reconstruction and planning مجلس الانماء والاعمار must understand that such project underground taxi garage is a guarantee to destroy the historic center of Tripoli that will eventually become a profit tool in the hands of those in power instead of serving the public interest. CDR is asked to halt to stop such a disaster project and use these funds to build two taxi stations on the north and south side of Tripoli instead and connect the tal center via an organized public transportation bus, tram, or special taxis which will guarantee reduction in traffic congestions and balanced distribution of vehicle transportation. This opinion can be backed up by educated and calculation means from trained engineers.
