There is a myth by the nuclear industry that they are the experts - TopicsExpress

There is a myth by the nuclear industry that they are the experts and they should set the regulations and working practices. The frackers are doing the same thing. But, the myth is wrong on two counts. Firstly, hundreds of thousands of graduates in Physics, Engineering, Civil Engineering and Health & Safety are produced every year. Any of these can be trained to frame safe working practices for either or any industry. Yet the government lets the industry write them for themselves. Thats like asking burglars to install alarms systems at banks. The second part of the myth is the presumption that nuclear stations and fracking sites are planned and run by expert engineers. If that were so, the nukes would not be placed on tsunami prone beaches, on earthquake zones or even on a bloody volcano! Both industries are run by accountants who invariably ignore engineering advice and choose the cheapest ways of operating. This is because profits are put way above safety, sense and sanity.
