There is a place along Visayas Avenue that plays music videos of 80s and 90s hits. No aircon, just a small two-storey affair facing the road, with spotlights, TV screens and speakers on high volume. It is packed. People are laughing over their drinks, then standing up to dance when Rick Astley or Madonna comes on, to more laughter and reminiscing. I am wondering if a place like that will exist in 2044 that will play music videos of 2000s hits, where people will stand up and dance themselves silly whenever some music comes on. It seems that not one of us listens (or wants to listen) to the same things anymore. Wheres the Macarena, with those intellect-crushing arm-stacking movements? Wheres the Mad World, with the inane airchop moves? Wheres Beat It, with all that wrist-flicking and MJ cool? Someday, I wanna be able to just silly-dance with you, friends. Meanwhile, I silly-dance with the husband. #GenerationGap #MissingTheFun80s
