There is another post today of a young person taking their life, as a result of cyber bullies. I am going to say something that I hope will not be taken the wrong way..When the self esteem of a young person is based on an upbringing where everyone gets a trophy, they begin to depend on a never ending stream of praise and validation from others...It is a huge shock when they encounter peers who were not raised on the same philosophy...Instead of you are great it becomes you really suck. With no mental toughness from having encountered adversity, the bullying takes a tremendous toll on a young persons mind....The well meaning parents have brought up a child in a hot house environment, and if that child has enough inner toughness, they will withstand being bullied, but some young people are not able to stand up, and we have yet another tragedy...It is not the fault of the parent, or the child..But a philosophy of child rearing that demands the child be protected from anything unpleasant...Free range your kids...
