There is no doubt in the mind of the observant Hindu that he is on the side of righteousness. The Vedas speak overwhelmingly of the righteousness of the gods and their disdain for unrighteous people. It is from Vedas that we learn that the gods rule this earth for the sake of righteous people, and it is the righteous who worship and seek aid from the gods. The gods do not hand out wealth indiscriminately but do so only for the righteous, because it is the righteous who praise the Holy Law and the law itself is righteous. The Soma untangles righteous from unrighteous behavior and flows in righteous ways. It is the ungracious who speak ill of the righteous and the righteous are given victory over them. The righteous do not abandon their behavior and they know the meaning of friendship. It is the spirits of our righteous ancestors who come down for Soma sacrifice. The entire order is made for the righteous! The Asvins come to the homes of the deserving righteous “Thrice come ye to our home, thrice to the righteous folk, thrice triply aid the man who well deserves your help.” – Rig Veda 1.34.4 Indra is righteous and brings wealth “He, righteous-hearted, at each time of rapture gives us herds of kine. Gather in both thy hands for us treasures of many hundred sorts.
