There is nothing like oil producing communities or ownership - TopicsExpress

There is nothing like oil producing communities or ownership claims of such resources capital like river and oil. This is because going by UN international water boundary convention, a countrys claim of maritime boundary is based on total landmass of its territories. In this case, if Niger delta communities claimed the ownership of oil resources which are explored from the Nigerias shore which is based on the size of the countrys landmass. Therefore, there is no particular community that has sole ownership rights on the oil resources because each and every community in the country has contributed to widen Nigerias opportunity to own that length of maritime boundary where the oil is discovered. Should now Nigeria (God forbid) being divided North with its 72% landmass broke away from the entire south which has 28% of the landmass. This will led to decrease of the maritime boundary of those coastal part of the country who claim the ownership of the oil. And any country with huge landmass sharing maritime border with that part of Nigeria can lay claim of any resources hitherto was Nigeria. This is somehow what Dr (senator) Usman Bugaje was saying and what he said is right and sound logical.
