There is some new study thats just come out in the UK about the alleged harms of cannabis use. Ive seen a whole range of people ranging from United Future to Golnaz (well THATS an entire political spectrum right there!) posting hysterical UK tabloid newsrags synopses of the findings. I havent read the study myself; but what jumps out at me ABSOLUTELY IMMEDIATELY is that NONE of these articles mention the establishment of a CAUSATION rather than CORRELATION of mental illness as the result of cannabis use. Yet, mysteriously, thats what everyones banging on about. In fact, the ONLY mention of CAUSATION that I could actually find was in The Independents writeup of findings, shared on the United Future facebook page ... which points out that underlying mental illness can cause people to self-medicate to try to alleviate the symptoms of pre-existing mental illness. Which, to my mind, only strengthens a correlation rather than causation based explanation for the relationship between cannabis and mental illness. Can people please actually READ what articles ACTUALLY SAY before whipping themselves into a condemnatory frenzy.
