There once was a man who most thought mad He bore eyes of kindest blue Whenever he reached an unfamiliar town He told those he met he was just passing through. “Not staying for long, why is that?” They would ask “What errand of yours is yet to be done?” “I have the most brilliant and thrilling of tasks,” “As I fully intend to capture the sun.” “The sun?” They would say with an incredulous tone “It cannot be done.” “Abandon this quest and return to your home” This never failed to make the man smile. “I understand why you think of my plan as too grand” Then he would look at his prize for a while. “I swear I’ll hold that star in the palm of my hand.” With a brief farewell the man would be gone Those with whom he spoke would return to their grind It was never more than a day before this man moved on They spoke at his back and would say “That one’s losing his mind” Decades passed as the man continued his chase. Making his way down his path in his worn down old shoes. “It’s an impossible task, that you’ll just have to face.” He would beam in return and politely refuse. With aching bones he crossed mountains and fields Eyes fixed on the sky, never losing his drive No matter what he was told, never would the man yield In pursuit of his goal he would forever strive As the aging mans legs slowed to a crawl He thought of all those that he’d loved and he’d lost And the places he’d seen on his world spanning sprawl Pursuing his dream no matter the cost Upon snow covered ground the man finally fell Alone in the wild, his breath laboured and weak Tired eyes peered at the fire, still under its spell The man gave it a grin; there were no words to speak Forever left staring, unseeing, his quest came to an end Sun rays shone in farewell on the ice, warming and bright Into distant memory he would soon descend Crossing the veil into infinite night The ones he had met had grown old in their homes Back where his journeys had each one, begun Sometimes even now for reasons, forever unknown They still thought of the man who had passed them while chasing the sun - Noctis
