There was a discussion on soya the other day when I mentioned potential hormonal affects from too much soya - this is part of an interesting KER article looking at phytoestrogens and hopefully will open up much more research in this line. I know the main plants investigated were Clover and Lucerne but they do mention soya being a candidate for these compounds too and as they say we do not know the effects of them although they are negative Phytoestrogens are estrogenic compounds found in plants, and are especially high in legumes such as soy, clover, and alfalfa. They are very similar in structure with endogenous estrogen (17-B-estradiol) formed in the body, but phytoestrogens compete for binding sites on estrogen receptors. Once bound on receptors, phytoestrogens do not have the same action as endogenous estrogen and can act as endocrine disruptors, negatively influencing several endocrine mechanisms during the estrous cycle
